The fast Marine Liner and the slower car ferry both leave from Tomari Port in Naha. This page sets out the timetable, the fares, the booking system and what rough seas can change.

In brief
Here is how to get to Tokashiki Island from Naha: Tokashiki village runs the public boats from Tomari Port, and each carries its own name. The Marine Liner Tokashiki is the high-speed boat, which takes 40 minutes and carries 200 people.1 Ferry Tokashiki is the car ferry, which takes 70 minutes and carries 450 people plus vehicles and cargo.2 Tomari Port is also called Tomarin and sits on Route 58 in Naha.10
Sources differ a little on the fast boat. The village gives 40 minutes,1 while Visit Okinawa Japan gives the Marine Liner as 35 minutes.11 On its ferries page the same bureau lists the express ferry at 40 minutes and the regular ferry at 1 hour 10 minutes.12 The village is the operator. Use its figures when you plan a day, and treat the shorter number as a best case.
The boats differ in more than speed. Vehicles and cargo travel on the car ferry, and they cannot be booked online: the village asks for a call to its Naha office.13 The Marine Liner holds 200 people against 450 on the car ferry, and the village warns that the ferries become very crowded from June to October.1,2,8 On a busy day that smaller boat is a good reason to book ahead.
Fares since the October change
| Boat or item | Adult one-way | Adult round-trip | Child one-way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ferry Tokashiki | 2,200 yen6 | 4,180 yen6 | 1,100 yen6 |
| Marine Liner Tokashiki | 3,300 yen5 | 6,270 yen5 | 1,650 yen5 |
| Bicycle on the ferry | 330 yen20 | 660 yen20 | No child fare |
Fares are Tokashiki village's own, in yen as it states them; adults over 16 add an environmental cooperation tax of 100 yen per person.21
The Tokashiki Island ferry schedule from Naha gives the car ferry a single round trip a day. From March to September it leaves Tomari at 10:00, reaches Tokashiki at 11:10, sails back at 16:00 and docks in Naha at 17:10.14 From October to the end of February the outbound times are the same and the return moves earlier: it leaves Tokashiki at 15:30 and arrives in Naha at 16:40.15
The Marine Liner runs more often. In the summer timetable it leaves Tomari at 9:00 and arrives at 9:40, then sails back at 10:00 and reaches Naha at 10:40, and a second boat leaves at 16:30 and returns from Tokashiki at 17:30 to arrive at 18:10.4 In winter the second boat moves earlier, leaving Tomari at 16:00 and coming back at 17:00 to arrive at 17:40.3
A third Marine Liner sailing appears during Golden Week, the Obon holidays and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from July to September, with departures from Tomari at 9:00, 13:00 and 16:30.16 The village warns that Marine Liner operation can change with the business environment.17 It also publishes monthly PDF timetables, so the schedule can be checked up to 2 months ahead on the same page.18 Check the PDF before you buy a ticket.
Minutes on the water
Fares changed on 1 October 2026. On Ferry Tokashiki an adult now pays 2,200 yen one-way or 4,180 yen round-trip, and a child pays 1,100 yen one-way or 2,090 yen round-trip.6 On the Marine Liner an adult pays 3,300 yen one-way or 6,270 yen round-trip, and a child pays 1,650 yen one-way or 3,140 yen round-trip.5
Two extras are easy to miss. Adults over 16 pay an environmental cooperation tax of 100 yen per person on top of the boarding fee.21 The village also counts ages for fares in its own way: babies aged 0 are free, infants aged 1 to 6 ride free at 1 infant per adult, a child is aged 7 to 12 and an adult is 13 or older.22 These are the village's figures in yen, taken as it states them and not converted here.
A bicycle costs 330 yen one-way and 660 yen round-trip on the ferry, a motorcycle up to 125cc costs 650 yen and 1,300 yen, and a larger motorcycle costs 1,030 yen and 2,060 yen.20 Our own day trip is priced as a package that includes the boat, so the village fares matter mainly if you plan your own crossing or want to compare.

Slower crossing
Aharen Beach by car ferry

Quicker crossing
Aharen Beach by high-speed boat
Both boats can be reserved online through the village's ferry portal.7 Groups of more than 15 people, and any vehicle or cargo, cannot book online and must call the village office's Naha branch.13 The village says that without a reservation you might not get a place, and it recommends booking strongly for Golden Week and for the summer season.33,8
At Tomarin the ticket office is open 8:00-11:30 and 13:30-17:00, and the North Landing counter opens 1 hour before departure.28 Boarding begins 30 minutes before the Marine Liner sails and 1 hour before the car ferry, and every passenger must be on board 10 minutes before departure.28 The village asks passengers to reach the ticket office 1 hour before departure in summer, as ticket sales take time.28
Money matters on both ends. Naha Tomari Port has an ATM and an exchange machine inside the Lawson convenience store.34 On the island there is no ATM near Aharen beach, and the only one the village names is at the post office, open 8:45-17:30 Monday to Friday and 9:00-17:00 on Saturday.30,27 Withdraw your yen in Naha.

Our boat day on the clock
08:40
The first boat on the listing checks in at Naha Miegusuku Port at 08:40.
09:20
It departs at 09:20 by the village ferry or, in summer, a charter boat.
10:30
It reaches Tokashiki at 10:30, and a private shuttle takes guests to the beach.
16:00
The return shuttle leaves the beach at 16:00 for Tokashiki Port.
16:20
The boat leaves Tokashiki at 16:20 and docks in Naha at 17:10.
19:00
On the 12 July to 31 August departure the boat is back in Naha at 19:00.
The sea decides some days. The village updates the sailing information at 8:00 every morning and asks passengers to check its portal on the day.29 The Marine Liner can be cancelled when waves are more than 3 meters, and Ferry Tokashiki when they are more than 4 meters.9 Departure and arrival times can also move with local events or sea conditions, and the island-side port can change.35
If a service is cancelled, refunds are available.32 Reservations for suspended services are cancelled automatically and no call is needed, but if the outbound ferry is cancelled the return reservation is cancelled too, and anyone who wants to change to another ferry has to rebook both legs.36 A return leg left unused for personal reasons can be refunded with a 30% handling fee.32
A package tour handles this differently. Our listing says the day may change or be cancelled because of sea conditions, and that rain alone is not a reason to cancel. A drizzle on the Naha pier is not a cancellation. Read the weather as a question about waves and wind, and leave a day of slack either side if you have a flight to catch from Naha.

The ferries can become very crowded, especially during Golden Week (from the end of April to the beginning of May) and Summer season (from June to October).
Before Tomarin
The tour on this site is a same-day round trip that lasts 8.5 - 9.5 hours. Its listing says the sea crossing is by the village ferry from Tomarin or, in summer, by a charter boat from Miegusuku Port. The boat you meet depends on the date, and the times in your voucher are the ones that count, not the public timetable above.
The first boat on the listing checks in at 08:40 at Naha Miegusuku Port, leaves at 09:20 and reaches Tokashiki at 10:30, where a private shuttle takes guests to the beach. The return shuttle leaves the beach at 16:00, the boat leaves Tokashiki at 16:20 and it arrives in Naha at 17:10. From 12 July to 31 August an extra departure checks in at 11:00 and returns to Naha at 19:00.
What the package adds is the part the public boats leave open. Local transfers on the island are included and the listing says no walk from the port is needed, and lunch is included too. The price starts from $62, and you can cancel free until a day before the start for a full refund, or reserve now and pay later. Compare that with the fares above if you are weighing a do-it-yourself crossing.
FAQ
