Most beds on Tokashiki are in laid-back guesthouses, with a campsite and a glamping spot near Aharen Beach and only a few premium resorts. Here is what the sources say about places to stay, food and money.

In brief
A day trip is the simplest way to see Tokashiki, and a night is the best way to feel it. The summer car ferry leaves Tokashiki at 16:00 and the last summer Marine Liner at 17:30, which shortens the beach day to the early evening at most.8,7 In winter the last Marine Liner leaves at 17:00 and the car ferry at 15:30.9,10
What a night adds is the part that the boats cut. Visit Okinawa Japan suggests swimming at Tokashiku by day and watching the sunset from its sand in the evening.11 It also says the mountains act as a light filter that makes the stars particularly clear from the secluded coast.12 Those are evening experiences that a day-tripper misses.
Our listing is a day trip, with a same-day return to Naha at 17:10 on the first boat. If you want a night, book the stay separately and the crossing for your own dates, and look at the ferry page on this site for times and fares. Do not assume the listing can be stretched into a second day.

Visit Okinawa Japan describes the island's accommodation as mostly laid-back guesthouses, plus a few premium resorts.1 A campsite near Aharen Beach is popular with people who want to immerse themselves in beachside life, and tents can be rented.1 Search for a Tokashiki guest house by walking distance to Aharen, not by the port.
Tatazumi at Tokashiki Island is a glamping facility inside Keramashoto National Park, and the bureau lists it as a 40-minute high-speed ferry ride from Naha.14 It has 2 rooms, a free shuttle from Tokashiki Port to the accommodation and Aharen Beach as a 1-minute walk away.2,3,4 The bureau tells guests to tell the host their ferry details when booking the shuttle.3
A small number of rooms means a small number of beds in the busy season. The village says the ferries can become very crowded from June to October and that, without a reservation, you might not get a boat.15,16 Book the bed and the crossing together, and keep both changeable if you can.

Aharen is the practical base. Visit Okinawa Japan says Aharen Beach is accessible from Tokashiki Port by taxi or local bus in less than 15 minutes, with bars and cafes within an easy walk of the sand.5 Some buses go there, and a guesthouse in the village can help with the rest.17
The beach lists parking, a lifeguard, toilets, showers, lockers, a shop and a campsite, and entrance is free.18,19 The village sign gives lifeguard hours of 9:00 to 18:00, so plan the swim before the evening.13
Tokashiku has a shop too, but no lockers and no campsite, and no bus.20,17 If you stay in Aharen and want the turtle reef, you need a taxi or a pick-up arranged by a marine service shop.21 That is another reason to settle in the south, where the sand and the cafes are a short walk away.

As for Tokashiki Island restaurants, Visit Okinawa Japan says an ample selection of bars and cafes is within an easy walk of Aharen Beach.5 The beaches also list a shop, and showers and toilets for the day.18,20 Treat the food scene as small and beach-based, and carry snacks and water for the walk to a viewpoint.
On our day, lunch is included. The listing gives curry rice on the Aharen option and Okinawa soba, a beef bowl or curry rice on the Tokashiku option, and lunch is not included on an infant ticket. Reviewers call the lunch simple, with a vegetarian curry and rice for one and a Japanese curry that was very good for another.
Other listings name their own meals. A turtle snorkel tour from Naha lists lunch at a beach restaurant at Tokashiku, and a small-group boat snorkel lists lunch at the island's resort hotel with a choice of squid ink curry or an Okinawa soba set. Ask about food allergies and diets before you book, as the sources do not list them.
Cash is the quiet constraint. The village says there is no ATM near Aharen beach and advises taking enough cash.6 The ATM on the island is at the post office, open 8:45-17:30 Monday to Friday and 9:00-17:00 on Saturday, closed on Sunday and public holidays.23 Naha Tomari Port has an ATM and an exchange machine in the Lawson convenience store.24
Visit Okinawa Japan's news lists an accommodation tax effective from 1 February 2027, so check the current rule when you book a bed for a later date.22 The sources do not give nightly rates for Tokashiki accommodation, and we do not invent them: prices change by season and by property, so read them on the booking page itself.
Ferries are the other booking you cannot leave late. Reserve online, call the Naha branch for groups of more than 15 and arrive at the ticket office 1 hour before departure in summer.25,26,27 Both ends of a trip count: a cancelled outbound boat cancels the return, and both legs must be rebooked.28

Most accommodation options are laidback guesthouses, but there are a few premium resorts.
Before you book
Arrive early. The summer Marine Liner leaves Tomari at 9:00 and reaches Tokashiki at 9:40, and the car ferry leaves at 10:00 and arrives at 11:10.7,8 A free shuttle from the port is listed for guests at Tatazumi, so give the host your ferry details.3 That gives most of the first day for the beach.
The next day, the Marine Liner leaves Tokashiki at 10:00 for its first return and at 17:30 in summer or 17:00 in winter for its last.7,9 Check the monthly timetable, which the village publishes up to 2 months ahead.29 Allow time at the port, as boarding opens 30 minutes before the Marine Liner sails.27
If you only have a night to spare, a short stay at Aharen is enough for a sunset, a quiet morning and a turtle swim at Tokashiku before the boat. A day trip, in contrast, costs from $62 on our listing, with the boat, shuttles and lunch included. Choose by the evening you want, not by the price alone.
Pack for the sea first. Visit Okinawa Japan puts the January water at around 22 degrees Celsius and advises a wetsuit for watersports, and the sea runs from around 21 degrees Celsius in February to nearly 30 in August.30,31 A rash guard and a thin wetsuit both earn their space in a bag, depending on the month.
Air temperature is gentler than the water. At the Naha station, 32 km from Tokashiki, the average daily high is 19.7 °C in January and 31.7 °C in August, with lows of 15.1 °C and 26.6 °C.32,32 A layer for the winter crossing and a hat for summer are enough.
Pack for the island's limits too. Carry yen, as there is no ATM near Aharen beach, and bring sun protection, which reviewers of our day mention after a start in the afternoon.6 A bicycle can travel on the ferry for 330 yen one-way, but a rental on the island is simpler.33 Leave anything you cannot afford to wet in your room.
